Resource Assessment

Resource Assessment

Each project site or area has a paleontological resource potential, which can be high, moderate, low, or even zero. Assessing this resource potential is a typical requirement of permit-granting agencies and is often presented as a technical report in project-level Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs) and/or Environmental Impact Statements (EISs).

Typical paleontological resource assessments include reviews of institutional paleontological locality records, reviews of relevant published and unpublished paleontological and geological reports, on-site surveys to field check results of literature and record reviews, evaluation of significance of construction-related impacts, and formulation of appropriate mitigation measures.

PaleoServices staff has extensive experience providing complete paleontological resource assessments for a wide range of projects including utility line construction, residential and commercial development, roadway construction, and general plan amendments.
