A distinguished, and continuing, list of refereed scientific publications reflects the long history of the San Diego Society of Natural History as a leader in the exploration and study of the geologic past and present biological diversity of western North America and beyond.
The museum publications date back to 1905 with the publishing of the first issue of the Transactions of San Diego Society of Natural History. Over the years, additional scientific publications were begun and ended. Our current scientific publication is the Proceedings of the San Diego Society of Natural History. In addition, the museum has published the magazines Environment Southwest and Field Notes. The majority of both the current and historical publications are available to download, thanks, in part, to scanning performed by the Biodiversity Heritage Library.
