Science Volunteers

Volunteers are essential to maintaining our scientific collections. They perform a variety of tasks related to collections management. The science departments are open Monday–Friday, 9:30 AM–5 PM. Volunteers must be available a minimum of three hours per week for three months.

You must be 18 years old to volunteer in our science departments. The exception is established internship programs for course credit with local area high schools. Students enrolled in a formal internship program with the school must be juniors or seniors and coursework in the sciences is required.

Applicants with a background or strong interest in science are preferred. The following science departments are included in the museum's mission:

Please note that the San Diego Natural History does not study human history, Anthropology, or Achaeology. If you are interested in these subject matters, visit the Balboa Park.org for a list of museums covering these areas. 

To apply complete a  volunteer application. The Director of Volunteers will contact you to schedule an interview or invite you to an introduction of the museum and the volunteer program.
