Opening exclusively to members on October 10 (and to the public on October 11), The Discovery of King Tut will give you an unbelievable glimpse into the most famous archeological find in the 20th century: the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. Featuring more than 1,000 breathtaking, scientifically produced replicas hand-crafted by Egyptian artisans, the exhibition allows you to enjoy the magnificent splendor of these priceless Egyptian treasures without harming the fragile, sensitive originals–which are no longer permitted to tour outside of Egypt.
Kick off the Museum’s 140th anniversary at the October 30 (from 6-9 PM) Annual Meeting. This is the one night a year where members are invited to go behind the scenes at the Museum! Join us for a night of family fun, starting with a presentation on the history of the Museum and learn how this fascinating institution was started by a group of amateur scientists in 1874. We’ll then open the doors to our offices, classrooms, and labs so you can meet our researchers, explore our collections, and see a preview of our newest exhibition in the making—Coast to Cactus in Southern California—opening January 17, 2015. Current members will receive an invitation in September with registration information.
